I love stop motion animation and I often enjoy Tim Burton's imagination but I always felt something was lacking in this movie ever since I first stepped out of the theater in '05. I like the story (though it clearly isn't perfect) and I love the idea of this movie in general, yet aside from the piano solo/duet I never thought the music in this film was good enough; it didn't suck me in. I know what you're thinking - "Well you don't watch a movie for its music." True, but when it's a *musical* the music has a significant impact in the whole entertainment thing. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a musical and its soundtrack compliments the movie so well that I would even argue it helped make it into the classic it is today. Danny Elfman wrote the soundtrack for both films so to say I was surprised is putting it mildly. Don't get me wrong, I do like this movie. I suppose I just had high expectations with The Nightmare Before Christmas in the back of my mind. With Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas being the great movies that they are, it makes me wonder if Henry Selick (the underdog that he is) was the key to making The Corpse Bride legendary. Because although this is an enjoyable piece of art, it's not what I would consider a classic.
