BO-RING ..god.. hard work.. a very tedious two hours... I find these formulaic cliche CAD films totally boring.. acting totally uninspiring and grandiose.. naff basically.. usual hollywood fodder.. I can never stay awake thru them..
This movie has it all and I do mean it all, I couldn't give this more then a 5 star cause thats the highest but I think if there were a 10 star this movie would have it a must see for scfi fans 5/5 stars
The biggest problems with this movie are promotion and script. Most people probably don't knw it is based off of a 100 year old book that inspired many things after it such as Star Wars, Avatar, and even Superman. There are plenty of flaws in the film such as the overall pace, development of characters. At times, I felt I was watching avatar. but it wasn't that much brilliant. very similar story. different worlds, humans, creatures, friends, enemies and love between different races. I didn't like much. but it's watchable
i thought the quality was good, it certainly didn't spoil the viewing, quite the reverse, it was good enough for me to conclude at the end that john carter is better than avatar, better than star wars, i mean the whole concept of star wars and any of the six overlong dull boring episodes, plus the fact the book was written in 1917 means that the likes of star wars have all stolen from the concept of the ERB "princess of mars" book. i loved the way they didn't try and make it superflash, other than the fact the spaceships have an old 1930's flash gordon feel to them. excellent film, i've watched it twice and i'm no fan of the sci-fi genre and i'll certainly go see it on the big screen if it ever reaches the small community cinema in my small town, we only ever get the blockbusters and the odd british film and only many weeks after their release, i was lucky enough to get to see avatar in 3D and much as i enjoyed it john carter is far superior.
Supermov worked well. Liked this movie but it dragged a bit at the end with the battle scene. Not into that. Didnt like the Anthony and Cleopatra style and English accents reminicent of the old Liz Taylor movies. The Flash Gordon side of it was ok. Loved the aliens.
watched on vidreel. quality was dubious to start with, kinda seemed like watching 3d without glasses lol but it soon either got better or I enjoyed film too much to notice... it's easily watchable.
The movie itself is a mish-mash of cowboys and aliens, flash gordon, star wars, avatar, star-gate and, um idk pick a superhero who's strong and can get up after being thrown about hard lol . It's a great, fun movie with quality effects and quite well acted. It shouldn't disappoint. 9/10
Watched on vidreel, No subs and looks entire. Great picture and sound after 6 mins Been waiting for this one, good family scifi, didnt disapoint loved it. M 9/10 v 7 a 7
Vidreel is good quality for a cam, other copies have first 10 minutes cut out, a few scenes jump like sections have been edited out. large arabic subs and spam from the uploader. Anyway good quality from vidreel... now onto the film! I know nothing of the original book, but this did remind me of several other hollywood films, had a flash gordon-ish feel to it. Having said that, an entertaining, enjoyable action packed movie, well worth the watch! Would give it an 8 out of 10, but don't take my word for it, watch it and see for yourself... thanks to you z movie guys for all the hard work you do!
the vid reel I watched was great. subs were spot on, small and unobtrusive,and only showed when carter talked to his new alien friend, and all in English. whole cam was good apart from a thick and slightly blurred beginning. some joker stood and blocked the screen for a few seconds half way through but I didn't throw my pop-corn.
Does anyone know why all the vidreel players keep saying "Connection Failed" everytime i play them ? Iv tryed many different movies. It being saying this to me for about a month now.. Thanks in advance :)
the new vidreel link is a pretty good copy. The first 5min or so is a little pix-elated but it gets much better just be patient. Sound stays in sync and this one doesnt have a set of Arabic subtitles. Overall movie was very entertaining.
I would not recommend this. the video quality is on the border of what i would watch. The video quality suffers because if you scroll out and shrink the screen the resolution has to be 180p plus when you have that small of a window you can see that in the distance the objects are seperating... So by conclusion the video was recorded with a shit camera and at a 3d screening. Adui is nice and matches the lips even though you can barely tell they have lips. :D
If you can survive the opening 15-25mins with the subtitles, you'll find this a really worthwhile watch, which they do disappear & didn't affect my ability to watch through them... Decent effects, story & acting, with plenty action... I'll defo be going to see this on the Big screen at the cinema now
As for the other commenter's (moaners), seriously what do you's expect??? DVDrips on every film just released & available for free lol... Moan if you're getting mugged off, I'd understand that :P
I dont get this there is an arabic translation then theres another arabic translation on top of that which ruins watching the whole. Who was the dipshit who did this
It's a cam with spam, he keeps flashing up the name of a website. Of course, thanks for sharing, but really bad sound and fairly bad picture. Also missing the first few minutes...cam-guy must have met a queue at the popcorn stand :)) Then there's the crappy eng sub which are in white...I'm guessing that this version was cammed for a foreign audience with very bad eyesight, as their subs take up half the screen, yes, there's more than one set of subs, there's three, LOL!!!
But,despite ALLLLLLL that it was not so bad that I didnt watch it all :)) Haha!! So, thanks again Mr. terribly late, talking on the phone, cam guy.
As for the movie itself, it must have cost a fortune to make..! It was worth a watch if, like me you love sci-fi, fantasy etc...it was probably better than average in that genre, but definitely not a very original story. It's kinda a Frankenstein's monster of a storyline, bits of everything in there...Stargate, Cowboys and Aliens, Starwars, Avatar...and to be honest I was a little meh about the story, who cares, just get to the action. Oh yeah, some good action...if you could see it properly, it might be great :P No doubt, in the cinema, with the special effects shown off to their best, this would be a lot better, so I reserve judgement.
I like what hollywood has been doing,mixing old west movies with sci-fi,in the new perspective of visualizing old west with-out-of-this-interplanetary action. I beleive that we are in for the recognition of a new trend in cinematography.
John Carter was a book Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. In 1917 it was originally named (A Princess of Mars) Hollywood didn't mix old west with sci-fi they just changed a few things from the book and renamed it.
