Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13, though opposites in personality, are best friends. Megan carries the front of being the most popular girl in school, but this masks a lifestyle of hard partying, drugs, alcohol and indiscriminate sex. Amy, unpopular and socially awkward, clings to her relationship with Megan as a lifeline to social acceptance. Together, these two young girls forge a deep friendship based on their mutual needs. The two girls regularly communicate by web chat cameras or cell phone, and even meet boys online. As Megan seeks friends who are different from her usual posse of hanger-ons, she is introduced by a friend online to a 17 year-old boy named Josh in a chat room. Megan and Josh bond quickly, leaving Amy feeling a bit left out. One day, Megan goes to meet Josh in person, and she is never seen again. Amy launches into a concentrated effort to find her friend....
I don't care if this was real or fake. This is MUST watch film for all.. we need to teach our kids that the world is NOT all sunshine and rainbows.. to all that has lost a child/person's may the lord be with you in your time of need.. God Bless
Okay, I can handle my fair share of scary movies, but this one definitely made me cringe. It actually made me feel quite sick on the inside. This is one movie I do not care to ever watch again.
Wasn't sure what to expect based on the mixed comments, but am glad i saw it. Especially with all disappointing scary movies that are being made. I think if people didn't take this to seriously they would have enjoyed it more. Has far has this being true, its just another movie based on a collaboration of real life events, hell Google girl found dead in barrel and theres page after page. So it does happen. I dont know why anyone would think their trying to pass this off as real footage, we all know better. Doesn't mean you cant still get into the movie. I was kinda annoyed in the beginning, but the eerie brutality left me in awe by the end. Im glad they didnt pull any punches, would have ruined it
this is a movie they should show in middle school to educate the kids and as far as referring to the comments of others comments is wrong. everyone has their opinion on how they percieve this movie and has that right. those that don't like what they say about it is your right BUT it is about the movie ppl want to know about. not your petty differences.
I find I do not like these so called 'real video' films. This was just bad. I know the story is sad and things like this happen but please....make them seem a little bit more real then this. They made this movie with the least amount of video tape and still get to call it a 'movie'. 1/5
This is one of those rare movies that invoke better comments than the actual film. It was worth a watch,hence my 3/5,but I'd give da hissy fits it provoked 4/5. Its just a movie,in th already worn out style of Blair Witchypoo. I love the bitchin it provokes tho,haha!
This film completely freaked me out, I'm a massive horror movie fan and dont really get scared easily but this one did the job my heart was racing and i literally covered my eyes at a couple of parts, everyones arguing about whether its real or not, obviously the actual footage is not real but it is based on true stories, it shouldn't matter if its not real the fact is this kind of thing happens all the time and it 's terrifying. 5/5
Amber Perkins as Amy and Rachel Quinn as Megan were good.Story is really frightening, true or not, it's happening out there and our kids could get hurt. Don't watch it before you go to sleep. Rating 3/5
@kdizzle Okay let me get this straight, you took time to comment on my one spelling mistake. The fact that I did not include a second "O" in the word "to"?? That requires a comment on my intelligence ? Are you another one of those people that come on these comment pages to pick fights ? You say you don't know what the previous beef was about,then go and read the comments and you will see all I was trying to do was state I did not think this was based on a true story and they attacked me saying I was trashing the movie and insulted me. Why would you comment on something so trivial as a second "O" on one word of a whole properly spelled paragraph ? Why ?

I'm not trolling. I watched the movie and read some comments on the message board. I then wrote on the message board... which is what it is for. I didn't read the whole diatribe of your comments because they're ridiculous. You decide that since someone else has an opinion that isn't aligned with yours and voices it that they are trolling. I agree wholeheartedly with debcanada1. This is a person who obviously has their head screwed on right. Don't pay any attention to people like Tashden or rieys because people like them don't have any class. The only way they can justify their existence is by trashing people who don't agree with their ignorant and ill conceived opinions. Just remember, the truth always prevails. I have watched this movie and could see that it was a fake right away, so anyone who claims that I did not watch the film first before commenting can get their head out of their own rectum.

....perhaps a bit more graphic, and tries to bite you at the heart. clearly the directors intentions. a movie like this will not open the eyes of average people, as most will never see it. its education and daily news that will tell the population of the 'true' horrible things that can happen if we are not carefull. this movie has regular actors...who really are just beginners. the movie is meagn is missing...........soon to be this movie is missing....in the long list of movies that miss.
Well to start with if you're going to claim this is a true story, with real footage the acting is pretty bad and no1 continuously records there whereabouts esp by Webcam a 13 year old girl would have to download a specific program even to record, people use messanger/skype etc so i don't think it's very effective as a movie, they should have just said it's based on a true story. Also there was holes in alot of the antics going on.... For e.g they didn't inhale when they smoked "weed" all sorts.
Aside from that aspect of it, the story is a good one, and you can relate to the characters... when it's not to the extreme. I spend alot of time on the internet it's fool of weirdos so this could have been a really good story.
The acting is terrible, the storyline repulsive. This is no wake up call, this is a cheap attempt at sexualising underage girls. Absolutely deplorable.
True story my ass!!! Do I think stuff like this happens all the time , absolutely but I have googled the crap for these missing girls names and come up with nothing. I also don't believe that the courts or the parents of the missing children would ever release photo's or videotaped evidence for public viewing. I think parents should take computers out of the kids bedrooms and take there cell phone's, kids don't need all this technology we survived without all this crap, it just gives predators more access to our kids!!!
Hey Tashden, for your information, I do have children, but I have enough sense to teach them how to take care of themselves. If you were such a good parent, you wouldn't have to worry so much about whether or not your children will fall victim to the type of predator portrayed in this film. Maybe you should think before you attack the comments that other users post. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because a film maker seems like they are trying to promote a good cause, that doesn't mean their motivations are as pure as you may think they are. Just remember that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on true events, but those events were not as sensationalistic as what was portrayed in the film. Obviously, the maker of this film pieced together the most shocking details of 7 different cases to make one film that would shock the audience enough, making his motivations less than admirable.
Clearly neither of you have children because you are talking out of your @$$. Don't just sit there and trash the movie and pretend to know the directors reason behind it. Hey Sherlock, try digging a bit deeper than googling the names of minors in a movie before calling it fake.

There is also a link from MARC KLASS who founded KlassKid foundation was established in 1994 "to give meaning to the death of my twelve-year-old daughter kidnap and murder victim Polly Hannah Klaas and to create a legacy in her name that would be protective of children for generations to come." This movie is a wake-up call to all the parents in todays world who walk around with blinders on thinking this stuff doesn't happnen.
Thank you! Another person who has a brain and can see this movie for what it really is. It is not a "wake up call" at all. It is just a cheap, exploitative film about a very serious issue. The film makers made it for profit, not as a public service announcement to create awareness on how to keep your children safe. They knew that pseudo documentary style films make money and decided to use the most vile subject matter they could think of for the plot.
I have certainly watched so many horror movies that I usually don't get fazed by even the best of horror movies, but this movie is certainly one of those movies which is really simple but lives you speechless and awe-struck. After watching first 10 mins I thought this is one of those paranormal entity documentary style movie where the ghost abducts the innocent low lives curious humans...but there is something that makes you sit during these starting few minutes and once you watch this for first few mins then I bet you'll watch the rest of the movie..
Now coming to plot the makers claim this movie is based on true incidents which as a fact is true and only the names of those victims have been changed in this movie..and only because this is a true story it clicks as a movie and right at the end makes you think how can humans fall so low and cheap...
I recommend this movie to all the strong hearted people who don't get scared easily. I also recommend this movie to all the parents so that they can take proper precautionary measures to safeguard the safety of their Kids...and all the teens who are watching this movie this should be a wake up call and please never try to hide things from your parents no matter how uncaring parents y'all have..

I'll give this movie 9/10 because as real life story this movie really touched my heart and I certainly wouldn't want this to happen with any one but as a movie I felt their are many better horror movies than this...but nevertheless this movie is unique and one of its kind movie definitely a must watch!!!
This movie was completely fake and stupid. Anyone who believes that any of this footage is real has obviously not analyzed the movie properly. Why would the kidnapper/killer shoot video footage of his atrocities using the one victim's video camera, then throw the camera away into a garbage can located in a PUBLIC park without erasing the footage first? Why is there no nudity in any of the rape/fetish scenes? Real child pornography would contain nudity, since child pornographers are clearly not concerned about obscenity laws. The film makers knew that they could not show any nudity because the actors are minors, yet we are expected to believe that the footage has "never been seen before" and is the actual footage of the supposed crimes. Internet predators are a serious threat to children, yet this film turns that issue into just another
Everyone knows this isnt the actual footage but rather a based on a similar situation(s). The director could show as much nudity as he wanted because both actors are in college and in their 20s. He wanted to horrify and shock you because these type of things happen everyday and should horrify you. Also, the killer never shows his face in the movie but rather just tapes the victim so he can relive it. People do this and share it because killers want to be known. (Hello BTK, Zodiac, etc.) The movie was shot this way to make you forget it was a movie and to terrify you. And if you are a parent, like you said, it should have. You should raise your children to take care of themselves and be safe but remember they are still children and lack the forsight to see the true consequences of their actions. You never see a parent on the news say "Oh we knew this was going to happen. We just knew she was going to be abducted, raped and murdered." No they say that they never thought this would happen to them, remember that when you post things saying that about your kids.
this movie freaked me out and put me to tears all at once, its so true how some teens r living nowadays, i mean, i was rebelious too at the age of 14 but i was not stupid,,,even tho all teens r, to some extreme, but just goes to show, how open u have to be with kids,,,about everything, cuz u just never know, i always show the hardcore truth to my daughter about the consequences one gets when choosing wrong paths, and shes only 5 years old, cuz if u dont instill it in their minds now, then when the teen years come along it will b too late, and they will want to experience it themselves. this is A MUST SEE FILM FOR EVERYONE, LEARN AND SEE WHAT LIFE IS REALLY ABOUT

i agree.. i never heard of these girls or if its true but it should def b a wake up call to young girls this docu/film def deserved high ratings i had to stop and walk away from it n im a horror buff...all i got to say after that movie is damn!!!
"Parents do you know where you kids are, at 10 PM?" this movie revealed the shocking truth what parents don't know about there teenage kids, and teenagers who never tell there little secrets to there parents. This movie is NOT for sensitive viewers tough. I believe this is a must see movie for all parents and teens. This is a movie with a message and warning for our daily life in our 2011 society. 5/5 rating is worth this docu-film
Okay, if I am such an idiot, then where is the proof that this case is actually real? I defy you to find one shred of evidence to support the claims of the film makers. By the way, the rest of my original comment got cut off for some reason. I stated that this film is has turned the issue of Internet predators into just another cheap, exploitative slasher flick.
